A jukebox musical entitled the ‘Beautiful: The Carole King’, accompanied with book and lyrics by Douglas McGrath, tells a story about the early life and career of Carole King.
The jukebox musical usually uses the songs written by Carole King, in collaboration with the songs of Gerry Goffin, and other contemporary music by Phil Spectator, Cynthia Well, Barry Mann and many others.
On October 2013, The ‘Beautiful: The Carole King’ got its first worldwide premiere at the Curan Theater situated in San Francisco. Under the direction of Marc Bruni and full choreography by Josh Prince, the musical starred Jake Epstein and Jessie Mueller as Gerry Goffin and Carole King. At the time, the musical show had hits on sales and sold out the entire run at the theater.
After it has been previewed on November 13, 2013, the musical production finally had its first Broadway appearance on January 12, 2014 at the Stephen Sondheim Theater.
Featuring all songs originally written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin, the musical production has two acts of musical numbers boxed with songs including ‘So Far Away’, ‘Oh! Carol’, ‘1650 Broadway Medley’, ‘Walking in the Rain’, ‘Chains’, ‘Pleasant Valley Su day’, ‘We Gotta Get Out of this Place’,’It Might As Well Rain Until September, ‘Be-Bop-A-Lula’ and more.
In 2015, a production by London’s West End starring Katie Brayben, who will be portraying the role as Carole the King, has been planned. Following a preview scheduled on February 10, 2015, the musical is expected to officially begin on February 25, 2015 at the Aldwych Theater.
The further casting of the production will be featured Alan Morrissey as Gerry Goffin, Glynis Barber as Jenny Klein, Gary Trainor as Don Kirshner, Lorna Want as Cynthia Weil and Ian McIntosh as Barry Mann. A U.S tour of the musical ‘Beautiful: The Carole King’ is also set later this year.
