Chicago is a musical production inspired from a book written by Ebb and Bob Fosse, it is accompanied with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Based on a 1926 play of the same name, a story about crimes and criminals reported by Maurin Dallas Watkins, who was tasked to cover the trials of suspected murderers Belva Gaertner and Beaulah Annan for the Chicago Tribune, back in the year 1924. With almost the same points of the 1926 play, the story of the musical ‘Chicago’ is a parody on corruption within the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the ‘celebrity criminal’.

Later in the year 1966, the musical was brought back around the West End. In fact, the Broadway revival became the longest-running American musical production in the history of Broadway shows, next to it is “The Phantom of the Opera”with 7486 performances last recorded on November 23, 2014.

In 1975, the original Broadway production was launched at the 46th Street Theater and had compiled a total of 936 performances until the year 1977. By Bob Fosse’s original choreography in the whole musical production, Bob’s way and style are strongly recognized by many. The musical “Chicago” had its West End’s first appearance back in the year 1979, which ran for over 600 performances.

Becoming the longest-running American musical in Broadway, whose revival counts for nearly 15 years, Chicago has relished various international shows and tours. The Broadway musical has two acts of musical numbers, the Act I and Act II, both are of different songs featured during the play. Some of the songs include Overture, Entr’acte, I Know a Girl, All That Jazz, Funny Honey, Me and My Baby, Cell Block Tango, Mr. Cellophane, When You’re Good to Mama, When Velma Takes the Stand, Razzle Dazzle, No and more.
